I am 52 years old licensed Acupuncturist and licensed Massage Therapist, originally from Fountain Valley, CA. but have lived in Tucson, AZ for the past 26 years. I’ve been happily married for 23 years. I don’t have any children, but I do have 4 cats and a dog. I enjoy nature and Green Party Politics.
Statement:
I am running for Secretary of State with the Arizona Green Party because the largest group of voters in most elections are those who did not vote. Polling shows Americans want a “3rd party,” and “Independent” registrations grow. But from whom are you independent if your only choices are Democrats and Republicans? The system that the Republicans and Democrats have established is hostile and presents barriers to entry for those outside of the Republican and Democratic parties. I’m running for Secretary of State to advocate for reforms that facilitate multiple candidate elections and a multi-party Democracy. My campaign will advocate for sincere voting methods like; Ranked Choice Voting, Approval Voting, or STAR voting for single winner elections allowing multiple candidates to compete without the fear of vote splitting. Proportional Representation in multi-member districts for legislative bodies and multi-winner offices to produce more ethnic, religious, ideological, and socioeconomic diversity in our representatives. Elimination of primary elections with political parties selecting their candidates via party nominating conventions, and fair ballot access for “Independent” candidates to get on the general election ballot. Political parties are private organizations and the public should not be subsidizing party functions. Political parties can determine their own candidate criteria and candidate selection process that they administer to select their candidate for the general election. Those outside of political parties should have fair ballot access criteria with reforms to the challenge process to enable candidates outside of the political parties to fairly compete in the political market place. Ballot verification systems like Civera or “ABE” to verify elections and fight cynicism surrounding elections. Same day voter registration. Safety and civility for election administrators/election workers. My campaign will use the bully pulpit of the Secretary of State’s office to lobby and advocate for these reforms, to improve the political marketplace which will transform our politics and governance.

| Question | Response | Comments/Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Enacting state-level restrictions on firearm ownership beyond current Arizona law. | S* | It would depend on the particular proposed restrictions, but in general I support common sense gun control. |
| 2. Adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes in Arizona nondiscrimination statutes. | S* | I support LGBTQIA people and their safety as a protected class. |
| 3. Expanding state-level enforcement efforts to deter illegal border crossings. | O* | This is a complex and nuanced issue, but it is a Federal issue and not something the State should enforce. |
| 4. Prohibiting taxpayer funds from directly or indirectly funding abortion services, except where required by federal law. | O* | This is a complex and nuanced issue. With that said, I support tax payer funded healthcare i.e. universal/single payer healthcare as stated in the Green Party platform. Women's healthcare in my mind includes access to legal and safe abortion, so I am not opposed to tax payer money going directly or indirectly to abortion services. |
| 5. Maintaining the universal Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) program without limiting eligibility. | O* | The Green Party is opposed to vouchers in it's platform and supports strong well funded public education, as do I. |
| 6. Legalizing physician-assisted suicide for individuals seeking end-of-life assistance, regardless of terminal illness. | S* | This is a complex and nuanced issue, however I support individuals being able to make an informed decision about seeking end of life assistance. I would have some questions and conditions surrounding the aspect of, "regardless of terminal illness" as stated in the question. |
| 7. Allowing licensed counselors to provide therapy to minors seeking to reduce or manage same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria, with parental consent. | S* | These are deeply personal and complicated decisions that families need to make on their own. There should not be constraints on licensed counselors in assisting families in this process if they chose to engage in it. |
| 8. Increasing criminal penalties for the sale and distribution of fentanyl and other illicit drugs. | O* | I'm not an expert on current laws and penalties regarding the sale and distribution of fentanyl. I am leery of contributing to the war on drugs, which I believe has been a failure. So I will say that I conditionally oppose this statement, but remain open to reasonable legislation and approaches to addressing the matter. |
| 9. Requiring stronger age verification and parental consent protections for minors accessing social media platforms and downloading mobile applications. | O* | I oppose these measures as slippery slopes and back doors to digital identification for everyone to access the internet. I'm open to nuanced discussion and debate on the issue to try and protect children from obvious harm. However, I'm also concerned about infringing on everyone's liberty which I feel this type of legislation does. |
| 10. Increasing criminal penalties for individuals who purchase sex. | O* | As a socialist I prefer that we provide for people's basic needs so that they do not need to sell their bodies to survive. The Green Party in their platform considers sex work as real work. Also, sex workers should be provided worker protections, healthcare, and unionization benefits. As someone who has some libertarian leanings, if two consenting adults want to engage in this type of informed transaction then I don't have a problem with that. I am 100% against sex trafficking of minors and adults. |
| 11. Requiring election procedures that ensure voter identification verification and ballot security. | S* | Unless convinced otherwise, I believe Arizona already has sufficient voter identification laws in place. I will entertain reasonable modifications if warranted. I do however feel that segments of the Arizona political culture use "voter ID" as a means to deny citizens their right to vote, and I oppose this. I do support ballot verification systems like Civera or "ABE" to verify elections and fight cynicism surrounding election results. Ada County Idaho uses such ballot verification systems and it has put to rest many of the fears and accusations regarding recent election results. |
| 12. Enacting a legislative referral that would ask voters to repeal Arizona Proposition 139, the constitutional right to abortion. | O* | I support legal abortion and abortion is supported in the Green Party platform. |
| 13. Expanding current marijuana laws to increase accessibility to recreational marijuana for adults. | S |
