Biographical Info:

A Teacher. A Business Owner. A Husband. A Father. A Grandfather and A Proud American.
My name is David Alvarado, and I am running for the Deer Valley Unified School District Governing Board because I believe our children deserve an excellent education—and parents deserve a meaningful voice in that education.
I am the third of eight children born to two legal Mexican immigrants. Spanish was my first language, and I grew up in the barrios of Los Angeles. My family did not have the luxury of private education, so my brothers, sisters, and I attended public schools.
That experience shaped me.
I learned firsthand what a strong public education can do for a child and for a family.
For more than 40 years, I have worked as an educator, teaching both inside and outside the classroom. I have also built a life as a husband, father, and business owner.
Through those experiences, I have learned the importance of hard work, personal responsibility, accountability, and preparing young people for the real world.

Statement:

Why Am I Running?
Because I believe public education has lost sight of some of its most important priorities.
Our schools should be places where children learn the fundamentals: reading, writing, mathematics, science, history, civics, critical thinking, and the skills necessary to succeed in life and the workplace.
I believe schools should teach children how to think—not what to think.
Parents should have transparency regarding what their children are being taught, and they should have a meaningful seat at the table when decisions affecting their children are made.
That’s why my campaign is centered on one fundamental principle:
The Power Back to the Parents.
Parents and guardians have the primary responsibility for raising their children. Schools should support families and work alongside them—not assume their role.
Fiscal Responsibility
As a business owner, I understand that every dollar matters.
Our school district has a responsibility to taxpayers, students, families, community stakeholders, and educators to manage resources responsibly. We need transparency, accountability, sound financial planning, and servant leaders who are willing to take ownership of difficult decisions.
Back to the Basics
I want to help restore a strong focus on academic excellence.
Our children should graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college, careers, entrepreneurship, and life.
They should understand the value of hard work, perseverance, responsibility, and personal initiative.
They should also learn America’s history honestly—understanding both our nation’s accomplishments and its failures—while recognizing the constitutional principles and freedoms that make America unique.
My Commitment
I am not a career politician.
I am an educator.
I am a business owner.
I am a husband and father.
I am an American who believes deeply in the promise of this country.
My wife and I have raised 4 adult children, plus enjoying the blessings of grandchildren and I know the hopes and concerns that parents have for their children.
I believe in God, family, hard work, personal responsibility, parental rights, educational excellence, and the American dream.
If elected, I will work every day to earn the trust of the families I represent.
I will listen.
I will ask difficult questions.
I will advocate for parents.
I will support quality educators.
I will demand accountability.
I will be mindful of improving our immediate North and West Valley communities.
And I will always remember who the school district ultimately exists to serve: Our children and their families.
Join Me
I cannot do this alone.
I need parents, grandparents, educators, taxpayers, business owners, and community members to get involved.
If you believe it’s time to restore trust in public education, strengthen academic fundamentals, respect parental rights, and put the focus back where it belongs, I invite you to join this campaign.
Let’s put The Power Back to the Parents.
Let’s get back to the basics.
Let’s build a stronger future for our children.

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Requiring district and charter school officials, including teachers, to inform parents about their child’s social, mental, emotional, or physical health. S* Parents over Big Government- 100%
2. Allowing parents to opt their children out of activities or lessons that offend their personal, moral, or religious beliefs. S
3. Increasing state and local taxes to provide more funding for schools and school facility projects. O* Until Arizona Public Schools show increasing enrollment and consistently increasing Proficiency scores that are measurable and not manipulated- giving Public Schools more money for inadequate performance is unacceptable.
4. Requiring signed permission from a parent before a student may participate in any sexuality related instruction, activities, or clubs. S* Parents over Big Government- 100%
5. Allowing all parents to use tax credits and publicly funded empowerment scholarship accounts to enable their children to attend any private, homeschool, or online academy of their choice. S* We live in a free enterprise system and should reward Parents for the Educational Choice for their child/student.
6. Making available books and instructional materials that include sexually explicit images and themes in school classrooms and libraries. O
7. Acquiring parental consent for school faculty and staff to refer to students by pronouns that do not align with the student’s birth sex. S
8. Allocating teacher pay raises based upon merit rather than providing uniform salary schedule increases based upon years of teaching or additional credentialing (e.g. master’s degrees). S* I'd also like to add that Teachers should not become Administrators until they have taught at least 10 years and have performed at a Highly Effective rating 75% of their performance reviews for at least 3 years in a row and improved consistently in every category every year they have taught.
9. Implementing policies to allow students and faculty to use the restroom, locker room, and shower room based on self-identification rather than biological sex. O
10. Teaching what is known as diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI); social, emotional learning (SEL); or critical race theory (CRT) in public schools. O* Any ideology should only be taught by Parents. Schools need to focus on Academics and basic literacy skills like Reading, Writing, Math and un-manipulated science.
11. Requiring each district and charter school to post online a list of all curriculum and instructional materials being used in the classroom. S
