Biographical Info:

Monica Alponte is a Libertarian running for Congress in Arizona’s 1st Congressional District. She was raised in a military family as an “Air Force brat” and lived across the country before choosing to make Arizona her home 25 years ago. This upbringing gave her a deep respect for those who serve and a firsthand understanding of the costs of war, fueling her commitment to a non-interventionist foreign policy that prioritizes peace.

A retired business writer and former conservative TV talk show co-host, Monica began to part ways with the “uniparty” in 2008 to champion civil liberties and true individual sovereignty.

Monica has faithfully served her Arizona community by working with the county to improve road safety, being active in animal rescue—where compassion and individual responsibility encompass the sanctity of all life—and leading by example in homeowner association reform. She sees HOAs as microcosms of our broken government: overreaching, invasive, and ruling rather than serving. Monica uses her cultural versatility to connect with Arizonans from all walks of life, building bridges to unite and work across the aisle—a necessity to restore the principles of American freedom.

Statement:

My desire to run is simple: Stop the wars; Make peace! Stop the waste; Conserve! Stop the lies; Tell the truth! Like the majority of Americans, I’ve grown weary from the uniparty’s uniform foreign policy pushing war after war (each party has their favored conflict). They each promise peace, but once in office they spend trillions on war. I decided I would be one of the new voices in the political arena who will represent what voters want: peace, liberty, prosperity.

Arizonans deserve a representative who will unequivocally vote ‘NO’ on every single foreign aid package and military intervention that doesn’t involve a direct attack on our soil, and yes on everything that serves America and Americans. America first, government last.

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Expanding federal enforcement efforts to prevent illegal border crossings. O* I Oppose expanding federal enforcement because it is another example of the uniparty's sneaky way to insert 5,000-page bills packed with other issues to include deals with lobbyists totally unrelated to the border. We already have a solid immigration policy in the United States Constitution; all we need to do is follow it.
2. Appointing federal judges who interpret the U.S. Constitution according to its text and original intent. S* Follow the Constitution, keep healthy disdain for lawlessness
3. Adding sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression as protected classes in federal nondiscrimination statutes. O* The Constitution already ensures every American their individual rights; all that's needed is for both sides follow it. Creating new federal statutes only invites more government overreach, uniparty meddling, and causes more division and infighting among Americans. Stick to science, common sense, and safety.
4. Providing federal tax credits or scholarships that allow parents to choose private schools, homeschool, or online programs for their children. S* Provide tax credits and cut taxes wherever and whenever possible until one day we can eventually abolishing the IRS entirely.
5. Prohibiting federal funds from directly or indirectly supporting organizations that perform, promote, or provide referrals for abortion. S* The federal government shouldn't be involved in using tax dollars for government-managed 'healthcare' or 'deathcare.' Unless it involves a direct emergency service, the federal government has no constitutional role in funding these programs.
6. Prohibiting the federal government from discriminating against organizations based on sincerely held religious beliefs. S* The Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of religion. Discriminating against organizations based on sincerely held religious beliefs is against law, unless they physically harms others. All the federal government needs to do is follow the Constitution.
7. Legalizing physician-assisted suicide for individuals seeking end-of-life assistance, regardless of terminal illness. O* This is a dangerous slippery slope; doctors and the government already wield too much power.
8. Federalizing election law by removing state authority over elections. O* The Constitution of the United States clearly leaves the power to manage elections to the States. This is just another sneaky attempt by tyrants to centralize power in D.C. so they can control the outcome. We already have the Constitution; all we need to do is follow it.
9. Eliminating the filibuster rule that requires 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to move most legislation. O* The filibuster puts checks on federal government overreach. The uniparty wants to remove it so they can ram through their 5,000-page scams with a bare majority. We should be making it harder for the government to pass laws, not easier. Keep chains on tyrants; follow the Constitution!
10. Increasing federal penalties for the sale and distribution of illicit drugs, sex buyers, and individuals convicted of human trafficking. S* Trafficking used to be called what it really is: 'slavery.' It is the opposite of freedom, it brings destruction and often death. Sanctity of life. Safety. Protect. Predatory behavior belongs in the wild animal kingdom, not in human society. Increase the penalties for all including the rich. RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES AND PROSECUTE!
11. Requiring federal regulations that ensure parental consent and stronger age verification for minors accessing apps, social media platforms, and online content. S* This is a matter of restoring rights. Empower parents with the tools to guide their own children; it’s a matter of safety and common sense. Protecting our children is a fundamental duty, and the government's role should be to ensure parents have the authority to do that. The Constitution protects the fundamental right of parents to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their children.
12. Allowing the federal government to regulate artificial intelligence to protect privacy, prevent bias, and safeguard public safety. O* While I support protecting privacy and safety, this is another slippery slope, as the government has proven to be untrustworthy with our freedoms and already wields too much power. We should be using the Constitution we already have to protect our digital rights, rather than letting tyrants create new 5,000-page regulations that only give them more control over our lives.
