Statement:

I am Sara Jarman, and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for the Higley Unified School District School Board. I’ve observed a concerning trend: student enrollment is declining while many dedicated teachers are leaving. Meanwhile, the district is seeking additional funding through bonds and overrides this November. It’s crucial that we listen to our community, which is eager for change. Parents want age-appropriate books and curricula that respect their families’ Judeo-Christian values and do not tread on their parental rights. We must prioritize academics, accountability, and safe environment for all to restore trust in our district. Together, we can create a supportive environment where families feel confident in our schools. I am committed to advocating for these values and ensuring that every child receives the quality education they deserve. Thank you for your support!

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Requiring district and charter school officials, including teachers, to inform parents about their child’s social, mental, emotional, or physical health. S
2. Allowing parents to opt their children out of activities or lessons that offend their personal, moral, or religious beliefs. S
3. Increasing state and local taxes to provide more funding for schools and school facility projects. O
4. Requiring signed permission from a parent before a student may participate in any sexuality related instruction, activities, or clubs. S
5. Allowing all parents to use tax credits and publicly funded empowerment scholarship accounts to enable their children to attend any private, homeschool, or online academy of their choice. S
6. Making available books and instructional materials that include sexually explicit images and themes in school classrooms and libraries. O* They are available on Amazon.
7. Acquiring parental consent for school faculty and staff to refer to students by pronouns that do not align with the student’s birth sex. S
8. Allocating teacher pay raises based upon merit rather than providing uniform salary schedule increases based upon years of teaching or additional credentialing (e.g. master’s degrees) -* This is a multifaceted issue, and I want to emphasize my commitment to addressing it effectively. My goal is to retain excellent teachers within the district by implementing merit-based raises that reward their hard work and dedication. Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that inappropriate teachers are swiftly removed/fired from our schools to prevent them from moving to other districts and potentially harming students elsewhere.
9. Implementing policies to allow students and faculty to use the restroom, locker room, and shower room based on self-identification rather than biological sex. O
10. Teaching what is known as diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI); social, emotional learning (SEL); or critical race theory (CRT) in public schools. O* It is essential that we return to the fundamentals of education, especially in light of our declining test scores, which indicate a pressing need for this shift. By fostering a learning environment that prioritizes knowledge and understanding over discussions of sexuality, we can create a more focused educational experience. Therefore, let’s emphasize back-to-basics education that promotes learning, respects all individuals, and provides equal opportunities for success. This approach will better prepare our students to navigate their future with confidence and competence.
11. Requiring each district and charter school to post online a list of all curriculum and instructional materials being used in the classroom. S
