My 41-years living in Scottsdale have been blessed. I arrived as an apprentice architect in 1978, fell in love and married Rosemary Gannon ( St. Maria Goretti 1980). We raised two children in the same neighborhood where Rosemary grew up, participating with them in schools, sports and spiritual education gives me the whole-life perspective, to serve as mayor. Since 1984, when I opened my architect office in Old Town I have been involved church, business and community organizations such as Rotary ( 1993) and served as city councilman. I married into a law enforcement family. Lieutenant Gannon NYPD retired in 1966 and moved ( six children) to Scottsdale SPD serving 23 years including as Chief Michael Gannon ( RIP 2008). One of Rosemary's four brothers retired as SPD sergeant. We have no debts or conflicts of interest and can serve as full-time mayor. I have a proven record opposing cash subsidies which sap city taxpayer funds. I oppose bailouts and subsidies requested by speculator developers who seek excessive height and density subsidies to the detriment of my city. I led families and area businesses in opposition to the 2019 re-zoning case to locate a medical marijuana dispensary next to Perform to Learn Preschool and a Christian Scientist church in Old Town. My opponent has family interests in the MMJ pot shops and strip clubs. As a planner architect I have the listening skills to gather citizen input, learn from perspectives and lead our city. I have four decades experience as an architect team leader, ready to hand responsibility to contractors and I respect all workers. That I am an architect and Spanish speaking is a bonus.

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Denying federal funding to “sanctuary cities” that do not comply with federal immigration laws -* Federal Issue Not Applicable to City Charter. Scottsdale is not a sanctuary city and never will be as long as I am mayor.
2. Allowing all parents to use tax credits, vouchers, or education savings accounts to enable children to attend any public, charter, private, homeschool, or online academy S* State Issue Not Applicable to City Charter. Public schools offer open enrollment, variety of charters are great too.
3. Expanding background checks to include guns purchased from private individuals S* Federal and State issue not applicable to City Charter. Assault weapons are of concern where private, profit sales cannot screen transfer to dangerous person.
4. Using taxpayer funds to support any organization that provides, promotes, or provides referrals for abortion O* Federal and state issue not City Charter. Do not see city participation.
5. Prohibiting abortion except when it is necessary to prevent the death of the mother S* Federal issue not City Charter. I am Pro-life and Pro-womens rights in accordance with the US. Constitution.
6. Providing tax breaks to certain industries over others O* Hell no. Arizona has too long subsidized special interests at the expense of education and infrastructure. Speculators often seek subsidies.
7. Adding “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” or “gender expression” to the protected classes of race, religion, age, sex, and ancestry in nondiscrimination ordinances S* Go by the Supreme Court and include all humanity.
8. Protecting a parent's right to seek professional counseling for their minor child with same-sex attraction or gender identity issues to help them reach their desired outcome O* Not City Issue. Usually, I support parental control, but the question "...their (parent) desired outcome." allows 3rd party use any means to bend the child is wrong.
9. Setting minimum wages above the state minimum wage O* Must follow Federal & State -- Not City Charter. Wages and salaries are market driven.
10. Protecting individuals and businesses from being required to use their artistic expression in a manner that violates their conscience S* Not City Charter issue: Artists are free spirits.
