Statement:
I’m running for state senate because I know what it takes to rebuild in hard times. I started my business in the shadow of the Great Recession. I’ve been through the budgeting. Felt the awesome obligation of meeting payroll. Seen how freedom and hard work combine to make dreams possible. I want to use every lesson I’ve learned along the way, every ounce of effort and scrap of will that I can muster, to help rebuild this place I love with all my heart.

Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Expanding background checks to include guns purchased from private individuals. O* The right to armed self-defense is a fundamental human and Constitutional right. I oppose any attempt to infringe on this right through additional regulation.
2. Adding “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” or “gender expression” to the protected classes of race, religion, age, sex, and ancestry in nondiscrimination law. O* Unelected bureaucrats have already made even current anti-discrimination law so complex that it is almost impossible for businesses to comply with.
3. Prohibiting abortion except when it is necessary to prevent the death of the mother. S
4. Allowing biological males that identify as transgender to play on female sports’ teams. O* I would support a ban on this practice in district schools.
5. Providing state funding or referrals to abortion entities that perform or refer for abortion. O* I would support a ban on this practice in district schools.
6. Reforming the Arizona tax code to enact a flat income tax rate. S* I would prefer to eliminate the state income tax entirely but a flat income tax would be preferable to our current tax system.
7. Allowing all parents to use tax credits, vouchers, or education savings accounts to enable their children to attend any public, charter, private, homeschool, or online academy. S* Parents are the ultimate experts on what education is best for their child.
8. Legalizing physician-assisted suicide. O* I am frightened that legalizing physician-assisted suicide would lead to the state encouraging such behavior, or even making it mandatory.
9. Protecting a parent's right to seek professional counseling for their minor child with same-sex attraction or gender identity issues to help them reach their desired outcome. S* Would want to see specific bill language.
10. Requiring public schools to teach comprehensive sex education. O* Sex education is best addressed by families, not schools.
11. Protecting individuals and businesses from being required to provide services or use their artistic expression in a manner that violates their moral or religious beliefs. S* The role of the government is to protect fundamental rights like the free exercise of religion.
12. Establishing electric retail competition to eliminate the current monopoly system for electric utilities. -* I would want a great deal more information on any proposal before answering. My objective is to preserve a free market for Arizona.
